Fall Makeup Routine

If you know me, then you know that Fall is my thing. I’m never more alive or more myself than I am during this time of the year and I am here for it. As you know from our summer beauty routines – I love makeup. So when you combine my love for fall and my love for makeup you get one very happy Kylie in one very bold lip.

To start at the beginning, I’m still using all the same skin care products. The Skin Laundry Gentle Foaming Face Wash in the morning and the Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser to remove my makeup are still my go-tos. The only thing that changes in the colder months is my priming/moisturizing routine. I squeeze a generous amount of the Glossier. Priming Moisturizer onto my fingertips with one pump of the Becca Backlight Priming Filter then I mix the two products together and apply to my whole face with my fingertips.

Now we’re ready for our base. In the fall and winter I usually go for a matte foundation with full coverage, like the Urban Decay All Nighter foundation (I’m in the shade 0.5 if you were wondering. Yep, there’s shade lighter than 1…). This foundation does tend to oxidize a little darker once it’s on the skin, so be sure to test your shade carefully! I follow that with the Tarte Shape Tape concealer under my eyes, down the middle of the nose, and a little on the center of the chin and cupid’s bow (or wherever else you want to highlight). I finish up the base with RCMA No-Color powder under the eyes and anywhere else I applied concealer to set everything in place and the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose-Setting Powder – Glow on the highpoints of the cheeks and forehead (adds a little more dimension to the matte skin).

Next, I usually move on to brows and eyes before finishing the face. For brows I use the Benefit 24-Hr Brow Setter. Like I mentioned in our Summer Beauty Routine, I get my brows dyed, so when they’re darker I don’t need to fill them in. If the dye is fading and I need some help, I use the Glossier Boy Brow or the Benefit Gimme Brow in shade 3 to add some color. For my eyes, no palette screams fall like the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette. I have blue eyes, so the warmer shades and gorgeous red tones bring out the blue and make my eyes pop. I’m obsessed. For mascara, I’ve been loving the L’Oreal Voluminous trio. I’ve had these products and used them individually, but just recently I used them together and it was magic on my eyelashes. I start with Voluminous Lash Paradise, then apply Voluminous Original, then finish with a couple coats of Voluminous Million Lashes. Maybe a little excessive, but so worth it.

Once the eyes are done, I move back to the face to warm things up and add some color back to the face! During the most recent Sephora VIB sale in September, I splurged on something that’s been in my saved items for so long. I picked up the Marc Jacobs O!Mega Bronzer Coconut Perfect Tan in 104 Tan-Tastic and I love it. It smells so good and it’s the perfect shade for warming up my pale skin. Next, I use the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in light to contour. For blush, I’m currently loving the Burt’s Bees Blush line. I got the shade 1205 Bare Peach from my local Target and I need to get some more shades to try! I finish up the face with my Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in 10 Be My Highlight, and then use my Mary Lou-Manizer by the Balm as a highlight topper and for the inner corner of the eye.

A fall look isn’t complete without a fun, bold lip. I love a good burnt orange/red-ish lip, a fun berry tone, or a dark red lip. Some of my favorites are the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Mama, Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick in Campfire, and NYX Liquid Suede in 03 Cherry Skies. If you’re like me and your lips lean towards the dry side in the cooler months, try the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. I apply it before bed or before I start my makeup routine in the morning to add some moisture back when I need it! AND if you’re looking for the perfect fall nail polish, let me introduce you to Brick Sidewalk by KL Polish.

There you have it. More information than you ever knew you wanted on all my favorite makeup products for FALL!

To be completely honest my fall makeup routine is almost identical to my summer makeup routine. The biggest things you’ll notice is that I’ve started using better products, you can all thank Kylie for that. I’m still using Skin Laundry Gentle Foaming Face Wash in the morning and Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser to remove my makeup at night. Since I learned (from my skin profile at Ulta) that my skin is very oily, I started using Burt’s Bees Daily Sensitive Skin Moisturizer and I will never stop. It’s the best moisturizer that I’ve found for my skin and I love Burt’s Bees! I am still using Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation in Fairly Light Beige (because I am Fairly Light Beige ALL YEAR) but I have started using Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer in Light. I follow that with Ulta Mineral Powder Foundation in Fair 05 and Covergirl cheekers in Natural Rose.

In the fall, the only thing that really changes is my wardrobe (and my attitude, I swear I am a nicer person in the fall, I think it’s the open window and the fact that I can be very comfy in the fall). Of course I bring out all of my sweaters, but those sweaters are dark colors. I try to use darker colored eye-shadows because I like to bring out my green eyes more during the fall and winter months. I’ve started using Birchbox’s LOC (love of color) UK brand One and Done Shadow Stick in Haute Cocoa. Shadow sticks still make me anxious but I love this color and using a shadow stick makes me feel like I know what I’m doing with my makeup. On top of that I use Coastal Scents Style Eyes, which is a eye-shadow sampler I got in one of my Birchbox orders! I’m still using Covergirl intensify me! Liquid liner in Smoked Amber eyeliner but have changed my mascara!

Over the summer my mother in law, who is an esthetician, gave me an eyelash lift. She told me to start using Yumi Lashes Keratine Lash Lift Mascara, which is a clear gel that I put on before my actual mascara. The Keratine keeps my lashes long and strong and I am very thankful for a mom who cares enough for me to give me with such an expensive product! My actual mascara is Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Mascara. For my eyebrows, I’ve started to use Busy Girl Brows by Tarte in Medium Brown. Since my hair is silver, I really like the look of darker eyebrows in the cooler months and I love this tint. I finish the whole look with my Milk Makeup Highlighter and of course my Burt’s Bees classic chapstick.

Like Ashley, my “Fall Beauty Routine” is exactly the same as my summer one with a few slight changes. My skin tone is fair all year round (all the foundations I’ve ever used had names with the words “porcelain” or “ivory” in them). I recently changed my foundation from the Tarte one I was using to Maybelline’s FIT ME Matte + Poreless Foundation in (you guessed it) Ivory. I swapped foundations for a couple of reasons: 1) Maybelline fit my budget at the time (#realtalk) and 2) it seems to keep my skin from drying out more than the other one during the colder months.

Speaking of dry skin – my go to is Aveeno’s Positively Radiant CC Cream for heading to the gym or just braving the world with a semi-makeup free face. It feels great on my skin, moisturizes and evens out my skin tone. Wins all around.

During the fall I break my Urban Decay NAKED 3 palette out. It just has those warmer, shimmery colors I love. I’m honestly impressed I still haven’t used it all up as much as I use it during the fall/winter. I’m getting close though and have already started eyeing a couple of new palettes to try. I’ve also swapped my usual Nyx Lingerie liquid lipstick color (lace detail) to something darker – Ruffle Trim. Who comes up with these names, I don’t know. But with as many shades as Nyx has…it can’t be easy. Bravo, shade namer.
